At their most recent meeting, the Washington County Conservation Board spent a significant amount of time discussing the Foster Woods County Park project. According to Conservation Director Steve Anderson, they concluded some alignment for the shelter parking lot, discussed work on the trails, and they’ve submitted a grant request to the Fish Habitat Stamp Fund to improve the pond. Anderson says their plans for the park improvements have been agreed upon, and now it’s a matter of securing funds.

He explains, “We’ve got a pretty big plan going forward, and we’re at the level where enough decisions have been made, we’re going to start talking to some potential donors. And so that’s where we’re at, we’re going back to the donors and we’ll attempt to secure the funding for what we have proposed at this point.” Even if they don’t receive 100% of the funds they need to complete every project, Anderson says they have contingency plans. They have several ways their plan can be adapted depending on the level of funding they receive, and have identified aspects of the project that can be delayed or scrapped. His hope is to have the project mostly completed within the next year.
