Fields, roads, homes, and yards recently decorated for the holidays were blanketed with snow Sunday across Iowa. According to the National Weather Service, a trained weather spotter reported 5.5 inches of snow falling southeast of Washington during the weekend’s snow event. The wet, heavy snow began falling in the KCII-listening area during the early morning hours Sunday and continued through about 3 p.m. There were three car wrecks in Washington County between 10:18 a.m. and 12:26 p.m. Sunday, including a vehicle leaving Highway 1 and coming to rest on the Kalona golf course.

A dense fog advisory was issued Monday morning for Washington County and all of the surrounding counties until noon.

Mostly cloudy skies are expected in Washington the rest of the week with temperatures tapering off; Wednesday’s high is expected to be 29 degrees with the low at 13 degrees. Listen to KCII for weather updates.
