Speeches and soup will be featured at a new event at the Washington High School Sunday afternoon. The first ever Soup Festival and Showcase is being presented by the high school’s speech team, which has nearly 40 students involved. Nick Kleese, speech coach, says soups are being made by guest chefs from the community including chefs and members of the school staff. People will be able to vote for their favorite soup and hear speeches from the students.

The event is a chance to present the students’ work and give the kids a chance to practice in front of an audience before going to contest. There is one event Washington students are entering for the first time – short film.

The Soup Festival and Showcase is being held in the high school commons from 1-4 p.m. this Sunday and admission is $10. Proceeds will benefit the speech team.
