Ten applications have been submitted for the Washington County Attorney post that will be vacated December 23rd, when Shawn Showers transitions to the district court judge position. The Washington County Board of Supervisors will have 40 days once the job is vacated to appoint a new county attorney or have one elected. At their meeting Tuesday, the supervisors decided to have chairman Richard Young and vice chairman Abe Miller work together to narrow down the field for in-person interviews.

Young said he’d like input from each supervisor and the other elected officials on the applicants, since they will all be working with the new attorney, especially sheriff-elect Jared Schneider. Young added he’s also working closely with Showers through the process.

Seven finalists have been announced. Interviews will be held Monday and Tuesday afternoons, and are open for the public to observe.
