Washington County Attorney Shawn Showers’s last day with the county is December 23rd. Showers was named by Governor Terry Branstad to be a judge, leaving the local county attorney position vacant. The Washington County Board of Supervisors is currently taking applications for the job and they must be submitted by Monday. Showers explained the supervisors can choose to appoint someone or they can have a special election. Even if the board appoints, residents of Washington County can petition for a special election by collecting 1,093 signatures.

Showers will be serving on the 8A Judicial District bench, which covers Washington County and nine other counties.
