Kids rarely get the chance to surprise their loved ones during the holidays with presents, but thanks to Washington County Conservation, they’ll be able to add some mystery to their gifts this year. Naturalist Pam Holz is hosting a gift making event on Saturday from 1-3 p.m. at the Conservation Education Center at Marr Park, and she’s not letting people know what the craft is ahead of time. Holz said she came up with the program because she feels kids enjoy surprises and keeping secrets, but it’s hard to do because of their need of money or supplies to make gifts.

Attendees will have the opportunity to make one or two gifts that will be wrapped and labeled before their parents get back, keeping them a mystery until Christmas Day. The only hint Holz will give is that it will be related to nature. She believes this event will be a good opportunity for kids to take ownership of their gift giving, while connecting them with nature in a fun way. The cost to participate in the gift making is $5 for one or $8 for two, and the children will have to be signed in and out by an adult.
