Southeast Conference basketball play for the season begins tonight in Fairfield for the Washington Demons. The Demon girls’ and boys’ basketball teams open their league schedule against the Trojans.

The Demon girls’ basketball team (1-3) is facing their second straight ranked opponent. Fairfield (4-2) enters tonight as the No. 15 in the latest Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union’s Class 4A poll. The Trojans start the conference season after a one-point loss to the Ottumwa Bulldogs Tuesday, 48-47. Fairfield has won four of their first six games. Washington is looking to bounce back after losing to No. 5 Center Point-Urbana at home Monday, 65-28. Sarah Nacos led Washington with 10 points.

Someone’s boy’s basketball team will earn their first victory tonight. Washington (0-1) started their season Tuesday in Muscatine, falling 60-33. John Dillon led Washington in scoring with eight points. Fairfield (0-3) has begun the season with three straight losses. Their latest came Tuesday in Ottumwa, falling 51-46.
