Per City code, Washington residents have 24 hours after snow has stopped or ice has formed to clear sidewalks. Steve Donnolly, building and zoning official for the City of Washington, says the city’s ordinance is to keep people safe. He adds there are many people who walk across town. When cleaning sidewalks, do not put snow in the street. Doing so can cause issues for traffic and will likely be moved back into the yard or sidewalk when snow plows go by. Snow that isn’t cleared from sidewalks in a timely manner can be done by city staff and the cost will then go to the property owner. Before that happens the city will leave a note on the door reminding residents to clear their sidewalks. Listen to KCII for weather updates.
