A new event is coming to Washington High School this month, it is the first ever Soup Festival and Showcase presented by the speech team. Speech Coach Nick Kleese is organizing the event along with assistant coach Jon Runaas and volunteer coach Robin Flattery. Kleese explains soups will be made by guest chefs including a member of school staff and someone from Cafe Dodici and admission for the event is $10 and people can vote for their favorite soups.

He adds the event will be a chance for students to practice their work in front of an audience. Runaas explains there are multiple genres within the program from one act plays to improvisation. Nearly 40 students are involved, in part because there is a new event Washington students are taking part in this year – short film. Students produce a short film for the contest.

Soup Festival and Showcase will be held Sunday, December 18th from 1-4 p.m. in the high school commons.
