Shirley Waldschmidt

A Mass of Christian Burial for 85-year-old Shirley Waldschmidt of Riverside, will be held Friday, February 3, 2017 at 10:30am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Riverside with Father David Brownfield officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Riverside. Visitation will be held Thursday, February 2 from 4 – 7pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Riverside where a prayer service will be held at 3:00pm. A memorial fund has been established for the Iowa Lion’s Eye Bank and the American Cancer Society. The Beatty Peterseim Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements.

Naked Tree Hike

Description: Washington County Conservation is hosting a Naked Tree Hike on Saturday, February 11th at 9 a.m. at Hayes Timber in Washington. The trees are naked, not you, as you stroll through the woods, observing how different trees look without their leaves. Description: Emergency responders and public officials are encouraged to attend the Iowa Pipeline Association\’s free 2017 Pipeline Safety Awareness and Emergency Response Program on Thursday, February 9th at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Washington. The event will begin with a free dinner at 6 p.m. There is no cost for the event, but attendees are asked to preregister at IowaPipelineSafety.com.

Description: St. Mary\’s Parish of Riverside is hosting a fundraiser called \”Pancakes for Preservation,\” a pancake breakfast on Sunday, February 12th from 7 a.m. – noon. The meal includes all you can eat sausage patties, pancakes, eggs, and beverages. Cost is $7 for adults, $4 for kids 5-10, and kids under 5 are free. There will also be a bake sale and raffle. Description: Washington County 4-H is inviting 4th-6th grade youth to the Super Hero Lock-In on Friday, March 10th at the Washington YMCA starting at 8:30 p.m. There will be games, swimming, and other activities throughout the night, and pick-up will be between 6-7 a.m. Saturday, March 11th. 4-H\’ers and friends are welcome to attend. Space is limited and registration is required. Forms are available at the Washington County Extension Office or at their website. Cost for the event is $20 and is due by February 10.
