Multiple KCII area boys’ basketball squads will battle for one spot in next month’s state tournament. The Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) has released postseason assignments for Class 1A and 2A basketball teams. The Keota Eagles (13-3), the WACO Warriors (1-13), and the Winfield-Mount Union Wolves (6-9) are grouped together in the Class 1A District 10 bracket. The district also includes Cardinal (1-12), Danville (11-4), Holy Trinity Catholic (8-6), New London (12-1), Notre Dame (8-6) and Pekin (7-7).

The process of ranking the tournament has changed. The IHSAA board of control approved a recommendation last summer allowing coaches to determine the seeding in their respective substate bracket. A team’s record will be taken into account during a meeting of district coaches on the first Wednesday in February. The coaches will rank the teams in their group, and the IHSAA will determine the bracket’s seeding based on that information. In recent seasons, a team’s win-loss record in games 1 through 15 or 5 through 15 determined its postseason position. Dates for first round district games will be released during the first week in February.
