The Southeast Conference basketball season continues at home tonight for the Washington Demons against the Fairfield Trojans. The Trojans swept the previous conference doubleheader in Fairfield on December 9.

Slow starts continue to plague the Washington Demon girls’ basketball team (3-8). Washington scored two points in the first quarter of Tuesday’s 55-34 setback to Muscatine (6-8). It marked the eighth time this season Washington scored fewer than 10 points in the opening eight minutes. The Demons scored four first quarter points in their 60-17 loss to Fairfield in December. The Trojans are rated No. 14 in the latest Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union’s Class 4A poll. Fairfield enters tonight’s game winners of four straight games. Sami Fritz leads Fairfield with 182 points scored, 112 rebounds, and 49 steals.

The Washington boys’ basketball team (3-7) tallied their third victory of the season Tuesday. Mason Rich scored a team-best 21 points to help Washington to a 63-56 triumph over Davis County (2-11). John Dillon and Jacob Van Osdol added in nine points each for Washington. The Demons will try to win back-to-back games for the first time this winter tonight against Fairfield. A late 29-10 run by the Trojans helped them to victory in the first matchup, 64-46. Carson Crile was one rebound shy of a double-double for Fairfield, scoring 20 points and grabbing nine boards. Washington’s leading scorer was Jack Redlinger with 11 points.
