The Washington Demon basketball teams hosted a familiar foe Friday night in their return league competition. As heard live on KCII FM 106.1 and KCIIRadio.com, the Demons welcomed the Fairfield Trojans to Washington High School for a Southeast Conference doubleheader. Fairfield left Washington with a pair of victories.

Turnovers hindered the Washington girls’ basketball team (3-9) last night. The Demons gave the ball away 28 times in a 52-32 setback versus No. 14 Fairfield (10-4). Amber Buch and Sami Fritz combined to score 46 of Fairfield’s 52 points. Washington’s Sarah Nacos scored 10 of her team-high 16 points in the fourth quarter. The loss drops Washington’s overall record to 3-9.

A 27-10 fourth quarter run helped Fairfield top Washington in the boys’ game, 62-56. The contest featured 11 lead changes and was tied five times. Washington held a 46-35 advantage entering the fourth quarter. Fairfield converted 11 of 13 free-throw attempts in the final eight minutes. Jaivonn Willis and Cale Hobschedit paced Washington’s scoring with 11 points apiece. The setback brings Washington’s record to 3-8 overall.
