A woman from Fairfield will be tried in Washington for allegedly embezzling money. Catherine Schafer is accused of embezzling more than $10,000 from the Fairfield Little League. She is being charged with ongoing criminal conduct and commission of specified unlawful activity, a class B felony; first degree theft, a class C felony; and two counts of forgery, an aggravated misdemeanor. Schafer was assigned a public defender, and had her arraignment on November 28th where she entered a plea of not guilty. She will have a pretrial conference on March 6th, and her jury trial is set to begin March 28th. Due to a conflict of interest at the Jefferson County Attorney’s Office, Schafer’s trial is being handled by the Washington County Attorney’s Office.
