Three people have died due to influenza-related illnesses in Iowa so far this flu season. There were 30 influenza-associated hospitalizations in Iowa in the last reporting week. According to the Iowa Influenza Surveillance Network, influenza is local and activity is low at this time in Iowa, however it is at a high activity level in Missouri and moderate in Illinois. Influenza has been confirmed in Washington County, the four cases were identified as the type A strain. Washington County Public Health nurse Lynn Fisher reminds people to get their annual flu vaccine, wash your hands and stay home when you’re ill.
