The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls basketball teams battled the Bellevue Comets in a Saturday matinee doubleheader at Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman.

In a matchup of ranked teams the No. 15 in class 3A Golden Hawks took out the No. 14 in class 2A Comets 60-47. After falling behind 5-0, the Golden Hawks scored 14 in a row to take a 14-7 lead into the second quarter. The Comets answered with 16 in the second frame to get within 27-23 going into the half. In the second half Rebecca Schroeder scored 10 in the third quarter and a three at the buzzer from Lindsey Banowetz gave the Comets a 39-35 lead going to the final frame. In the fourth the Golden Hawks exploded, outscoring Bellevue 25-8 to take the come from behind win. Ireland Hostetler led the Hawks with a double double 16 points and 12 rebounds. Ali Butters had 15 and Anna Vilovchik 12. The win is Mid-Prairie’s ninth in a row, their overall record is now 10-3.

In the nightcap the Golden Hawk boys roared by Bellevue 73-49. After the Comets opened with a three, Mid-Prairie went on an 8-0 to take a lead they would not give up the rest of the afternoon. The Golden Hawks led 28-24 at the half. Mid-Prairie made their move in the third, outscoring Bellevue 22-9 for a 50-33 lead going into the fourth. The Hawks put the game out of reach, opening the fourth on a 9-0 run. All 12 Golden Hawks played in the game, 11 scored, led by Carter Reinier’s 15 points. Tom Butters added 10. With the win Mid-Prairie is now 4-10 on the season.
