The Highland Large Group Speech Team competed at the recent district competition at Wapello High School, and will be sending a group improvisation team to the state contest. The improvisational actors headed to Cedar Rapids Washington High School on February 4th include Nathan Butler, Sam Davis, Kate McFarland, and Tyler Whestine. Group improvisation is considered one of the more challenging events by speech coaches, but they also consider it one of the biggest crowd pleasers. It involves a team of two to six actors who draw three random scenes and pick one to perform. They are given two minutes to prepare and their performance must be five minutes or less. If the Highland group improvisation team receives two I ratings and two recommendations from the three judges at the state competition, they will have an opportunity to go to the All-State competition on February 25th at Iowa State University.
