As many people attempt to make good on their New Year’s resolutions to get in shape, they may not realize there are many exercises they can do in their homes. According to Eric Turner of JET Physical Therapy, working out doesn’t have to be restricted to the gym. He explains, “There’s a lot of what’s called body weight exercises, where people are doing some squats, lunges, walking up and down stairs. Things that they’re moving their full body weight around, really get the heart rate up to also help burn calories at a higher rate.” Turner also suggests workouts that strengthen the upper body, such as push ups. Additionally, if people are concerned with balance or bad knees, they can do something as simple as a sit-to-stand exercise to burn calories. If the weather continues to stay mild, he recommends going outside for walks or runs.
