The Keota School District recently hired a new special education teacher for the elementary school. At their most recent meeting, the Keota School Board approved the creation of the position, and made the decision to hire Katie Fiegen to fill it. According to Superintendent Dennis Phelps, the interview process was short and concise so they could get the position filled quickly. He explained, “There’s certain requirements that have to be fulfilled for special ed, and a certain number of minutes that have to be met for students with services. We were right at our max, and we have additional students who are going to require some of those services. So we had to have another person with those endorsements to meet those needs, and meet the legal requirements as well.” Phelps says Fiegen will start at the school within the next two weeks.
