A slow start to the second half proved costly for the Iowa Mennonite School basketball teams Tuesday night. As heard live on KCII FM 106.1 and KCIIRadio.com, IMS welcomed the Lone Tree Lion basketball squads to Dwight Gingerich Court for a Southeast Iowa Super Conference North doubleheader. Lopsided third quarters helped Lone Tree earn a pair of road wins.

The Lady Lions (9-2) outscored IMS (0-10) by 13 in the third quarter in a 56-46 victory. The first half of the contest was tied six times and featured seven lead changes; The teams were tied at 19 at halftime. Lone Tree outscored the Iowa Mennonite School, 15-2, in the third quarter. IMS won the fourth quarter, 12-10. Madison Forbes had a game-high 23 points for the Lady Lions. Susan Yoder led IMS with 21 points. The win improves Lone Tree’s record to 9-2 overall, while the loss extends Iowa Mennonite School’s losing streak to 10 games.

The Lion boys’ basketball team (9-2) used a 21-5 run in the third quarter to propel them to victory, 56-46. Lone Tree jumped out to 14-2 lead five minutes into the game. IMS (7-4) closed the first half outscoring Lone Tree 27-11 to lead at intermission, 29-25. IMS won the fourth quarter, 12-10. Niko Gosnell scored a game-high 16 for Lone Tree. Nick Yutzy and Mitchell Schmieder poured in nine points apiece for Iowa Mennonite School.

The Iowa Mennonite School continues their season Friday at Wapello. Lone Tree return to the court Friday hosting Louisa-Muscatine.
