Washington County Conservation’s ice fishing clinic, which was scheduled for Saturday, has been canceled. According to Naturalist Pam Holz, the ice on the Marr Park pond is considered unsafe for group activity, and the above-freezing temperatures forecast for the weekend will only make the ice thinner. Potential anglers may still be able to fish on lakes and ponds in the county, but the conservation board decided the ice wouldn’t be thick enough to support the groups of people planning to take part in the clinic. The clinic will not be rescheduled.

If anyone is considering ice fishing in the coming days, Lake Darling Fisheries Biologist Chad Dolan reminds people to make sure the ice is at least four inches thick. If multiple people will be around the same area, or if people plan on operating ATVs or snowmobiles on the ice, Dolan recommends at least five inches of ice. Dolan and Holz advise people they should not risk going on it if there is a question about the safety of the ice.
