The Mid-Prairie School District and Wellman Golf Course recently made official an easement agreement that allowed the school to create a path from Wellman Elementary to Sunrise Daycare. The path originally went through North Park but stopped before reaching the elementary because it would have crossed land owned by the golf course. Superintendent Mark Schneider said the school and golf course came to an aural agreement, but until the most recent school board meeting the easement hadn’t become official. In spite of the easement not being in effect, the school constructed the path with the blessing of the golf course to make sure the path was built in time for the start of the school year. Schneider explained sometimes legal matters take longer than what’s practical, which is why they built it before the easement was official. In addition to continuing the path, the school also erected an eight-foot high fence running next to it to protect children from stray golf balls.
