The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk wrestling team returns to Wayland today, where they made history a year ago.

The Golden Hawks are the defending team champions of the WACO Warrior Invitational wrestling meet, the first team tournament championship in Mid-Prairie school history. The Hawks won the team race last year with 140 points, beating Iowa City Regina and their 124 points. This year Mid-Prairie is joined in the field by East Buchanan, North Mahaska, Tri-County, English Valleys, Davis County, Anamosa, Moravia, Lone Tree, Mediapolis, New London, Pekin, West Burlington and WACO. The Golden Hawks have two ranked wrestlers in their lineup. According to thepredicament.com and iawrestle.com, Duncan McCain is No. 9 in the state at 132lbs, and Visouth Peterschmidt is No. 4 in the state at 195lbs.

The Lone Tree Lions enter today’s tournament with no ranked wrestlers in their lineup.

The WACO Warriors have Cody Crawford at 285lbs, ranked ninth in the state in class 1A.

There are 10 ranked wrestlers in total in the tournament.

Action begins at 10 and continues all day at WACO High School.
