Liquor sales in Iowa increased last fiscal year by 3.9%. In total 5.3 million gallons of liquor were sold in Iowa in fiscal year 2016 according to the Iowa Department of Commerce Alcoholic Beverages Division and the U.S. Census Bureau. Johnson County had the fourth highest sold at nearly 300,000 gallons while Fremont County had the fewest at 677 gallons.

Washington County had 1.2 gallons of liquor sold per capita. Keokuk and Louisa Counties had less than half a gallon per capita, Jefferson and Henry Counties were near the one gallon per capita mark, Iowa County was at 1.5 and Johnson County was at 2.1 gallons per capita sold.

The top three liquor brands sold in Iowa in cases were Black Velvet Canadian Whiskey, Hawkeye Vodka and Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum.
