A junior on the Sigourney-Keota wrestling team claimed top honors at the Hudson Wrestling Invitational. The annual tournament featured grapplers from Charles City, Columbus Catholic, Don Bosco, East Marshall, Highland, Hudson, Jesup, Montezuma, Nashua-Plainfield, and North Fayette Valley. Kaleb Reeves (195) pinned his way to the invitational title.

Reeves had a bye in the opening round. His semifinal match lasted all of 21 seconds before he brought Montezuma’s Jon Wedgewood to his back. Reeves won the championship match by pinfall over Don Bosco’s Walker Even with four seconds remaining in the second period. The pair of victories improves Reeves’ overall record to 22-4.

Mason Dye (106) represented Sigourney-Keota in the finals but lost the championship match by major decision to Don Bosco’s Daniel Kimball, 13-2. Noah Reeves (170) and Noah Boender (220) tallied third place finishes for Sigourney-Keota. Boender suffered his first loss of the season in the tournament semifinals. He lost to North Fayette Valley’s Jordan Baulmer in the semifinal round by an 8-5 decision. He closed the tournament with a pair of pinfall victories to take third place.

The Sigourney-Keota wrestling team is set to host a South Iowa Cedar League quadrangular against Belle Plaine, Iowa Valley, and North Mahaska tonight. First matches commence at 6 p.m. at Sigourney High School.
