Last week in Washington the police were informed of an elementary student who was approached by a stranger, claiming he’d been sent by the child’s parents to pick the child up – following that report schools in Washington are talking to their students about safety. The student last week was able to run home to safety, after being approached by a man in his 30’s with brown hair.
St. James Elementary School Principal Beth McBride says parents need to talk to their children about it and always need to make sure their child knows what their after school plan is. She adds, their staff is working through how to talk to students at different ages, so they can create an awareness without making students anxious.
The incident happened January 11th on North 5th Street, near Stewart Elementary School. An increased police presence has been implemented due to the potential threat.
