Two area basketball teams will battle at Hillcrest Union tonight. Iowa Mennonite Schools is hosting the Lone Tree Lions in a Southeast Iowa Super Conference North doubleheader. Lone Tree swept a league doubleheader versus IMS on November 29.

The Lone Tree Lady Lions (8-2) scored a season-high 60 points in a 36-point victory over Iowa Mennonite School (0-9). Lone Tree seniors Madison Forbes and Elena Sieverding combined for 32 points, 13 steals, and nine assists in the victory. Suzanna Yoder led IMS with 14 points. A factor in Lone Tree winning eight of their first 10 games has been the play of their defense. The Lady Lions rank second in the league in points allowed, just 34.3 points per game. IMS is searching for their first win this winter.

Bench scoring helped the No. 5 Lone Tree Lions displace IMS in their first meeting, 52-35. Dawson Swails came off the pine to score a game-high 16 points, converting four of his five three-point attempts. Starter Niko Gosnell posted a double-double in the victory, 14 points and 11 rebounds. Brock Smith added nine points off the bench as well. Iowa Mennonite School’s Trevor Leyden came off the bench to score a team-high 10 points. Both teams are putting winning streaks on the line tonight. Iowa Mennonite School has won five games in a row, while Lone Tree has won back-to-back contests.
