The top boys’ basketball teams in each division of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference will battle tonight, both are undefeated. The Highland Huskies (8-0) will travel to New London for a matchup against Class 1A No. 4 Tigers (7-0). The two teams met in the opening round of the Class 1A District 8 postseason tournament last year; New London jumped out to a 14-2 lead after the first quarter and ran away with a 64-45 victory.

Balanced offense mixed with pressure defense has helped Highland get out to a fast start. The Huskies are defeating opponents by an average of 17.6 points per game, the best mark in the North division. Highland is one of four schools in the conference with over 100 assists, facilitating on 138 baskets. Highland has stolen the ball 81 times, tied for third most in their section. The Huskies’ top scorer is freshman Zach Lasek, who ranks third in the North division with 131 points scored and 62 rebounds.

New London’s margin of victory sits at 28 points per game, the highest in the conference. They also lead the Super Conference with 324 rebounds, 142 assists, 118 steals, and 36 blocks. Mason Porter is the team’s leading scorer at 17.1 points per game. Ben Dentlinger is averaging a double-double for the Tigers, pouring in 12.4 points and 11.4 rebounds per game.

The varsity boys’ game will tip off at 7:30 p.m. at New London High School.
