The first Southeast Conference road trip of the new calendar year will take the Washington Demon basketball teams to Lee County tonight. The Demons will invade Fort Madison High School, squaring off against the Bloodhounds in a league doubleheader. This is the first meeting between the schools this season.

The Washington boys’ basketball team (1-4) begins the 2017 portion of their schedule with five games under their belt. Their only victory so far came against the Sigourney Savages (4-4), 65-26, on December 12th. The Demons have shown a balanced scoring attack this season with six players recording at least 20 points each. Jaivonn Willis tops the Demons with 43 points scored. Washington’s defense has allowed an average of 61.2 points per game so far this season, four fewer than last season. The Bloodhounds (5-2) won five of their first seven games before the holiday break. Three Fort Madison players have recorded more than 80 points, including CJ Richardson (89), Kaleb Cresswell (88), and Treavor Kokjohn (81).

The Demon girls’ basketball team starts the new year looking to end a losing skid. Washington closed winter break with six straight losses, five by double-digits. Sarah Nacos leads the Southeast Conference with 19 made three-pointers and averages a team-best 14.9 points per game. Fort Madison (3-4) has won three of their first seven games. Amber Dilsaver and Mercedes Trimble tallied over 70 points and grabbed more than 40 rebounds before winter break.
