The road to the state tournament goes through Muscatine for the Washington Demon bowling teams. The Iowa High School Athletic Association and the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union released the bowling state qualifying assignments for all classes this week. Washington is one of seven schools grouped in Class 1A District 5 at the Rose Bowl in Muscatine on February 14. The others include Centerville, Central DeWitt, Durant, Fairfield, Louisa-Muscatine, and Sigourney’s co-ed team. Washington competed in the 1A Invitational at the Rose Bowl on January 7 and is set to face the Louisa-Muscatine Falcons in Muscatine on February 6.

The top scoring team and individual from each district advances to the state bowling tournament at Plaza Lanes in Des Moines on February 21. At large spots will also be awarded to the top scoring team and the top five individuals who weren’t district champions. Jessica Londberg was the last to represent Washington at the state bowling meet in 2014. The Washington bowling teams continue regular season match play tomorrow against the Keokuk Chiefs. First pins are set to drop at 2 p.m. at Lebowski’s Rock ‘N’ Bowl.
