Southeast Conference rivals will collide in girls’ basketball competition tonight at Mt. Pleasant High School.. Fresh off their first league win of the season, the Washington Demons (2-6) will look try to win back-to-back games when they face the Panthers (4-4). The teams split last season’s series with the road team winning each contest.

Eight Washington players registered points in a 46-43 victory Tuesday at Fort Madison (3-5). Sarah Nacos poured in a game-high 14 points, while Morgan Brinning and Kira Ropp added nine points apiece. The game was tied five times and the lead changed hands eight times in the first half. Tied at 22 at halftime, Washington went on a 20-6 run in the third quarter to lead by 14. Fort Madison answered by outscoring Washington, 15-4, in the final eight minutes of the game. The Bloodhounds missed a game-tying field goal as time expired. The victory snapped Washington’s six-game losing streak.

It’s been an up-and-down year for the Panthers. They began the year with a 14-point victory over Durant. Mount Pleasant lost their next four contests, allowing an average of 60.7 points per game during the skid. Defensive improvement helped Mount Pleasant win their last three games. They’ve allowed an average of 30 points in victories against Davis County (64-32), West Burlington (60-23), and Solon (47-35). Sarah Moffett is the team’s leading scorer and rebounder, posting 105 points and 46 boards. Kalynn Batey’s 29 assists are seven more than the rest of the team.
