Raising money to find a cure for cancer has been the mission of Washington High School athletic teams for several years. The Washington Demon wrestling team held their annual Takedown Cancer Night Thursday when the Demons hosted the Mount Pleasant Panthers in Southeast Conference dual action. While the meet was going on, the district sold take down cancer t-shirts and cheerleaders collected donations. According to the Washington Matbackers program, $482.78 was raised during this year’s event.

Washington wrestling held their inaugural Takedown Cancer Night on January 26, 2010. Over the last seven years, the event has raised $17,582.78 for cancer research. The Demon wrestling team continues their season Saturday in the East Marshall Duals tournament. First matches are set for 9 a.m. at East Marshall High School.
