The final Friday in January saw the Washington Demon basketball teams resume their Southeast Conference season. As heard live on KCII FM 106.1 and KCIIRadio.com, the Demons hosted the Keokuk Chiefs in a pair of league games. Washington sent Keokuk back to Lee County with a doubleheader split.

The offensive struggles continued Friday for the Washington Demon girls’ basketball team (3-11). The Demons committed 28 turnovers as Keokuk ran away with a 49-22 victory. Sarah Nacos and Kira Ropp scored six points each for Washington. Michaella Davis scored a game-high 15 points to help Keokuk to their fifth straight win. The setback is the fourth in a row for Washington, dropping their record to 3-11 overall.

Balanced scoring contributed to the first conference win of the season for the Washington Demon boys’ basketball team (4-10). Seven Demons scored five or more points in a 58-47 victory over Keokuk (1-15). Jaivonn Willis led Washington’s scoring attack with 12 points. Luke Turner added 10 in his first varsity start. Keokuk’s Issac Dunlap posted a game-high 19 points in the setback. The win improves Washington’s overall record to 4-10.

The Washington girls’ basketball team returns to the court today versus Cedar Rapids Prairie (5-11). The Demon boys’ basketball team continues their season at home Thursday versus the Keota Eagles (14-3).
