This week area fire departments responded to multiple grass fires. A ditch fire was extinguished by Brighton Fire Department Monday evening at about 7:45 p.m. south of Pleasant Plain. Tuesday at 3:20 p.m. four area fire departments worked together to extinguish a field fire. A field fire was reported in Henry County along 320th Street with CRP grass and timber on fire. Washington, Brighton, Crawfordsville and Wayland fire departments assisted there, and at a fire along Palm Avenue. At 3:20 p.m. Wednesday, Brighton Fire Department extinguished a grass fire that started to get out of control.

If you plan to have a field fire, report your plans to the Washington County Safety Center. Doing so helps with 911 calls the communications staff may receive from passers by, and dispatchers may advise it isn’t a good time due to conditions or the number of other emergency calls that crews are responding to that day.
