The district competitions for individual speech contest will be held across the state this Saturday. Washington and Mid-Prairie students will be heading to Tri-County High School in Thornburg, while Highland is sending its team to Tipton High School. There will be 15 students from Washington taking part in individual events ranging from solo improvisation to story telling. Mid-Prairie will be represented by 10 students across eight categories, with 16 different performances throughout the day. Highland will have nine students taking part in 10 events.

At the district competition, each participant will perform in front of a single judge who will provide comments and a rating from I-IV. Students who receive a I rating at districts will advance to the state competition at Vinton-Shellsburg High School on March 11th. Anyone who is nominated as an outstanding performer at state will advance to All-State at the University of Northern Iowa on March 27th.
