The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys basketball team hosts the Highland Huskies tonight in a class 2A tournament battle of KCII area teams.

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks enter play as the four seed in their class 2A district. They have an overall record of 7-16. They advanced to the second round of the playoffs by dispatching the Louisa-Muscatine Falcons on Monday in Wellman by a 65-40 score. The Hawks were led by Kyle Miller’s 12 points. On the year Mid-Prairie is led by Caleb Statler and Derek Rich, each averaging nine points per game. Statler also holds the team lead with 115 rebounds, ninth best in the River Valley Conference. Statler’s 50 blocked shots are best in the RVC and seventh in all of class 2A. Brad Tornow leads the Golden Hawks with 69 assists, fourth in the RVC.

The Highland Huskies enter the district semifinal round tonight as the number one overall seed in the district. Highland enters tonight’s action with an overall record of 17-4. The Huskies were 15-1 in the Southeast Iowa Superconference North, taking home the conference title. In their last game the Huskies were beaten in the Southeast Iowa Superconference Shoot Out Friday at Southeast Community College in Burlington by the West Burlington Falcons 74-69. Zach Lasek led the Huskies with 21 points. Trent Lasek had a double double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. On the season the Huskies are led by Zach Lasek, scoring 16 points per game, fifth best in the Superconference. He has also pulled down 155 boards, best on the team and third in the Superconference. Trent Lasek is best on the team and second in the conference with 119 assists.

These two teams met on January 2nd in Wellman with Highland taking a 66-48 win.
