A fundraiser that brings bright yellow flowers to area offices and funds for Relay for Life and local Rotary clubs is back in Washington County. Local Rotarians in Washington, Kalona and Wellman are selling daffodils as part of their Daffodil Days event. Susan Wellington with Washington Rotary explains it used to be an American Cancer Society fundraiser, but they decided to let it go nationally. However, Wellington enjoyed the splash of color that reinforced spring was on the way and thought of groups she was involved in that could take on the project. She felt Rotary had the membership and organization to do so.

There are three options – a bunch of 10 daffodils for $10, daffodils in a vase for $15, or a mini-potted daffodil for $15. She explains you can purchase the flowers for yourself, for a friend, or for someone you don’t even know – by having them taken to the local hospital or a nursing facility.

The funds raised are split between Washington County Relay for Life and Rotary. Last year about $2,600 was raised. You can purchase daffodils from any Rotarian, Bob Freeman or Wellington (319) 653-8452.
