It was a game that resembled the rivalry battles of yesteryear Tuesday night as the Washington Demon boys basketball team spoiled Senior Night at Tim Grady Gymnasium for the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks with a 78-73 win.

In a game heard on KCII, Washington’s offense was red hot early, scoring 23 in the first quarter to take a nine point lead after the first frame. The Demons would stretch that out to as many as 17 during the second quarter. From that point on, Mid-Prairie began to chip away. The Golden Hawks got the deficit to eight going into the half. In the third quarter the Demons pushed it back to 12 but Mid-Prairie got within three on two occasions and Washington led just 55-54 going to the fourth. In the final frame, Mid-Prairie would grab the lead by a single point on two separate occasions. Each time, the Demons would answer with a three pointer, knocking down six total in the fourth quarter and 12 for the game, holding on for the win.

The Demons put five in double figures led by 15 points from Tanner Coleman. Bryce Sinn and Mason Rich each had 13, Jack Redlinger 11 and Dalton Myers finished with 10. Mid-Prairie was led by 20 points from Derek Rich, Tom Butters had 18 and Brad Tornow 11. Mid-Prairie honored seniors Carter Reinier, Caleb Statler and Derek Rich before the contest. With the win, Washington is now 7-11 on the year, Mid-Prairie falls to 6-15.
