This year’s postseason run begins at home tonight for the Lone Tree Lions boys’ basketball team (16-5). The Lions open Class 1A District 9 play against the HLV Warriors (4-18). The Warriors advanced to the district quarterfinals by defeating the English Valleys Bears (1-21) on Monday, 57-45.

Two Lone Tree seniors are among the top 10 scorers in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North this winter. Niko Gosnell’s 368 points scored is tied for the third most in the league, an average of 17.5 per game. Jovonte Squiers is 10th in the conference in scoring at 264 points, averaging 12.6 per contest. Squiers is the league leader with 163 assists and 97 steals.

The Warriors enter tonight’s game winning three of their last four contests. Tucker Jones is the Warriors’ leading scorer and rebounder with 150 points and 148 rebounds.

Tonight’s winner will advance to play the winner of Lisbon (14-7) and Alburnett (12-9) on Tuesday in Lone Tree. The game between Lone Tree and HLV is scheduled to tip off at 8 p.m. KCII Sports will have live play-by-play coverage of the game immediately following the contest between Iowa Mennonite School (15-6) and Cedar Valley Christian (5-16).
