The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk and Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union wrestling teams traveled to Williamsburg Saturday for sectional action.

Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union had the highest area team finish, taking fourth place with 99 points. Solon won the event with 274 points. The Wildcats saw Tucker Morrison at 170lbs bring home the lone championship of the day, winning the title bout 4-0 over Mike Hoyle of Solon. That moves Morrison’s overall record to 43-2. Jarod Kadel will also move on to districts after his second place finish at 106lbs. His overall record stands at 38-6 on the season.

Other top performers on the day for the Wildcats included Armando Quiroz taking third at 120lbs, while Chase Wheeler at 113lbs, Jesus Jimenez at 126lbs and Noah Freeman at 160lbs all took fourth.

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks finished in fifth place with 96 points. The Golden Hawks crowned two champions on the day. At 132lbs, Duncan McCain was a champion, beating Christian Haight of Solon by fall in the title match to improve his overall record to 40-0 on the year. Visouth Peterschmidt took the championship at 182lbs, beating Dillon Diltz of Solon in the title match 2-0. The win moves his overall record to 39-3 on the year.

Other top performers on the day for the Golden Hawks included Jason Tew third at 220lbs, while Brent Foster at 152lbs and Colton Allen at 195lbs took fourth.

All district qualifiers will be on the mat Saturday at Fairfield. Action begins at noon.
