The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk and Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union wrestling teams will be on the mat today as part of the class 2A district tournament at Fairfield High School.

Mid-Prairie has two wrestlers in action with Duncan McCain at 132lbs and Visouth Persterschmidt at 182lbs. McCain enters today’s competition ranked No. 9 in class 2A in the latest poll from iawrestle.com. He has a perfect 40-0 record on the season. He will open up competition against Alex Hanna of Eddyville-Blakesburg. Hanna has a 44-6 record on the year,  and is unranked. Also at 132lbs are No. 4 Brant O’Shea of Keokuk with a 35-1 record on the year and unranked Christian Haight of Solon with a 36-20 record.

Visouth Peterschmidt comes into today ranked No. 2 at 182lbs with an overall record of 39-3. He will open against Washington’s Collin Murphy with a 21-22 mark on the season. On the other side of the bracket is Austin Angle of Eddyville-Blakesburg with a 43-9 record on the year who is unranked. He will face No. 5 Dillon Diltz of Solon with an overall record of 34-8.

Columbus has two wrestlers in action today with Jarod Kadel at 106lbs and Tucker Morrison at 170lbs. Kadel comes into today ranked No. 5 in class 2A in the latest poll from iawrestle.com. He has an overall record of 38-6 on the year. He will open against Washington’s Walker Ikerd who enters ranked No. 9 in the state with an overall record of 30-7. On the other side of the bracket is No. 1 in the state Grayson Kesterson of Williamsburg with an overall mark of 43-1. He will match up with unranked Jonah Cooper of Fairfield with his 17-13 record.

Tucker Morrison is ranked No. 3 in the state entering today with an overall record of 43-2. He will see Gaige Berryman of Eddvyille-Blakesburg in the first round. Berryman has a 19-20 overall record and is unranked. On the other side is Washington’s Logan Escher with a 22-19 record, he is unranked. He will face Solon’s Mike Hoyle who is also unranked with a 36-15 overall record.

Joining Mid-Prairie and Columbus/WMU at the tournament will be wrestlers from Benton Community, Clear Creek Amana, Eddyville-Blakesburg, Fairfield, Keokuk, Solon, Washington and Williamsburg.  The top two finishers from each weight class advance to next week’s individual state wrestling tournament at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. Action begins at Fairfield High School at noon.
