The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls basketball team hosts the Central Lee Hawks tonight at Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman in the semifinal round of the class 3A regional tournament.

Mid-Prairie enters tonight 16-6 overall and ranked No. 12 in the state in the final poll for the 2016-17 season from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. They finished 13-5 in the River Valley Conference, good for third place. The Golden Hawks advanced through Saturday’s regional quarterfinal round by beating up on West Burlington 67-31. Addie Rath had 18 in the win, Delaney Smith 15 and Ireland Hostetler 10. On the year the Golden Hawks are led by Rath at 13 points per game, 10th best in the River Valley Conference. Her 99 assists are also best on the team and second in the conference. Ireland Hostetler has the team lead with 187 rebounds, fourth most in the RVC. Hostetler’s 78 blocked shots are best in the RVC and third best in the state.

The Central Lee Hawks come into tonight with an overall record of 19-3. The Hawks were champions of the Southeast Iowa Superconference South with a 13-3 league record. In their first round game Saturday they beat Davis County 68-35. On the season the Hawks are led by MacKenzie Northup at 17 points per game, second best in the south. Anna Krehbiel is best on the team and third in the league with 69 assists. Makenna Hall has 179 rebounds best on the team and third in the south.

These two teams met last year in the regional semifinals in Donnellson, with Mid-Prairie blasting the Hawks 84-52.
