In what’s become an annual tradition, the Iowa Mennonite School’s chamber singers will be venturing into the area on Valentine’s Day to provide romantic serenades. Choir Director Alisa Kandel, who is in her first year at IMS, believes the Valentine serenades are a great tradition to continue. She says, “It’s good to spread the love! And people that buy the singing Valentines are really excited that we’re able to sing to them and their loved ones.” People who purchase singing Valentines will get two songs for $35 or four songs for $60. They will also receive a four-piece box of chocolates from Kalona Chocolates.

For the students, it’s a fun day where they often surprise the recipients of the serenades. Senior Nick Yutzy, who has performed singing Valentines in the past, explains, “I’m looking forward to the expressions on people’s faces when they’re surprised by this group of people showing up and singing to them.” To sign up for a singing Valentine, people can call the IMS office to set up a time. To hear more about the IMS singing Valentines, as well as a preview of one of their songs, listen to the In Touch with Southeast Iowa interview with the chamber singers at KCIIRadio.com starting Wednesday.
