The Iowa Mennonite School boys basketball team slammed Springville Tuesday night in the district semifinal round of the class 1A tournament 62-41 at Hillcrest Union in Kalona.

IMS never trailed in the contest. They held a 16-11 after one quarter and took control of the game with a 14-0 stretch in the second period. IMS capped the run at 17-3 with a Kaleb Gingerich three point goal at the first half buzzer to take a 37-19 lead into the locker room. In the second half, IMS continued to dial up the defensive effort forcing 21 total Orioles turnovers on the night and holding Zach March and Cavanaugh Riley, Springville’s two leading scorers who average a combined 29 points per game to just nine in the contest.

In the win IMS was led by Nick Yutzy with his 14 points, all in the first half. Cole Yoder and Cole Ours each had a dozen. With the win IMS is now 17-6 on the year and will next be in action Thursday at Mid-Prairie High School in the class 1A district championship game when they match up with the Lisbon Lions.
