January in Washington was warmer than usual. According to the National Weather Service, normally January’s average temperature locally is 20.9 degrees, but this year it was observed at 26.4 degrees. The record high was in 1933 with a 35.4 degree average temperature. While temperatures were higher than normal, snowfall was less. Total snowfall, since July 1st, for this winter is normally 13.1 inches, but this winter is about 10 inches below the mark.
