The City of Keota’s plan to annex properties at 2030, 2034, and 2038 Keokuk-Washington Road has again been tabled. The Keota City Council had a resolution approving the annexation on the agenda at their most recent meeting. However, the city had not yet received a 28E agreement with Washington County regarding road maintenance. Keota City Attorney Scott Flynn has been communicating with Washington County Attorney John Gish and Engineer Jacob Thorius to obtain the agreement, but it wasn’t complete before the city council’s last meeting.

The council voted unanimously to table the resolution until their first meeting of March. Once the resolution is passed, the city will send it to the State of Iowa for final approval, after which the properties will be officially welcomed into Keota city limits. According to City Clerk Niki Osweiler, the annexation process for these properties has been ongoing for at least two years.
