A pair of area girls basketball teams will battle for their postseason lives tonight. The Lone Tree Lady Lions (17-5) host the WACO Warriors (7-15) in the quarterfinals of the Class 1A Region 6 tournament.

The WACO Warriors advanced to the quarterfinals by avenging a regular season loss last Thursday. The Warriors traveled to Winfield-Mount Union High School for their playoff opener versus the rival Wolves (7-16). WACO, who lost to W-MU 47-39 on December 17, routed the Wolves, 57-29. The duo of Kristen Conelly and Halle Kissell combined to score 39 points and grab 20 rebounds for WACO. The Warriors out-rebounded the Wolves, 52-23.

Lone Tree made quick work of the Keota Eagles in their postseason opener, 59-22. Three Lady Lions scored in double figures, led by a game-high 15 points from Madison Forbes. Ashley Musser scored 12 points off the bench while Elena Sieverding added 11. The Lady Lions’ defense tallied 15 steals versus the Eagles.

The winner of tonight’s game will advance to the regional semifinal Friday versus the winner of Easton Valley (13-6) and Prince of Peace Prep (1-20) in Miles.
