The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys basketball team opened district play Monday, blasting Louisa-Muscatine in their first round contest 65-40.

In a game heard on KCII, L-M hit a three to start the scoring, Mid-Prairie answered with one of their own and never trailed again. The Golden Hawks had runs of 6-0, 9-1 and 15-4 in the first half, opening up a 39-16 lead at the halftime break. Mid-Prairie led by as many as 29 points in the second half. The Golden Hawks did it with defense, forcing 21 Falcon turnovers, and balanced scoring, putting four players in double figures.

Kyle Miller led the Hawks with 12 points. Carter Reinier, Brad Tornow and Caleb Statler all finished with 10. With the win, Mid-Prairie, now 7-16, moves on to the second round of district play Thursday, where as the four seed they will face the top seed Highland Huskies. The Huskies beat the Golden Hawks January 2nd 66-48 in Wellman.
