The Sigourney Savage girls basketball team saw their postseason run come to an end Monday night in Albia, falling in the regional final to the No. 3 ranked Cardinals of Central Decatur 64-42.

In a game heard on KCII, The Cardinals started hot with an 11-2 run and held a 17-5 lead after the first quarter. The Savages won the second quarter 11-9, thanks to an 8-2 run and the game stood at 28-18 Central Decatur going into the half. In the second half, Alli Masters came alive for the Cardinals scoring 20 of her game high 22 in the second stanza including 17 in the third quarter, leading a 12-2 Cardinal run that put the game out of reach.

In the loss the Savages were led by Brooke Waechter with 18 points, Autum Barthelman had 13. The Savages lose Anna Ohland from this year’s team to graduation. Sigourney ends their season at 20-5, Central Decatur is now 24-0 on the season and advances to the state tournament for the second straight season.
