The Washington Archery teams held a celebratory event this past weekend at Washington High School. The Washington Fun Shoot featured archers from Albia, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont, Mount Vernon, North Mahaska, and Solon competing for the final time before this week’s National Archery in the Schools Program’s 2017 Iowa State Tournament in Des Moines.

The high school division was won by Washington with a score of 3,328. Mount Vernon finished 13 points behind for second place. Samantha Mellinger recorded Washington’s top score of 289 out of a possible 300 points. Her performance featured 20 bullseyes and was the third best mark among high school girls competing. Mitchell Driscoll posted Washington’s top boys’ result with a 285 and 15 bullseyes. It was the sixth-best score in the high school boys’ category.

The Washington Middle School group fell four points short of winning their section,with a score of 3,279. Mount Vernon won the event.. Washington’s Alexis Ide bested the 34-person middle school girls field with a score of 284. The Lincoln Elementary School crew finished second overall with a total of 2,795 points. Mount Vernon won the section with a score of 3,009. Makynna Morgan posted Lincoln’s top result with a 257 and six bullseyes.

All three Washington archery teams will compete in this weekend’s 2017 Iowa State Tournament at the Richard O. Jacobson Exhibition Center in Des Moines. First flights are set for 9 a.m.
